Two of our Senior School students, Rickylee Peita and Caitlyn Gent did an outstanding job in public speaking and were commended on being a genuine credit to the College.

This is a prestigious event for young people, which boasts many high profile Australians amongst the ranks of former entrants. These include: Kevin Rudd; Peter Beattie, a past premier of Queensland; the ABC’s Sabra Lane and Senator Simon Birmingham. Through entering the program, which is now in its 50th year, students have an unequalled opportunity to experience an interview situation and a chance to practise their public speaking skills. Students are also judged on their leadership ability, academic achievements, sporting prowess, community involvement and general knowledge.

Two of our Senior School students, Rickylee Peita and Caitlyn Gent, recently competed in the Elizabeth and District Lion's Youth of the Year Competition. This entailed participating in a 40 minute interview in front of a judging panel, delivering a prepared speech and tackling two nerve-wracking impromptu questions - in front of an audience of more than one-hundred invited dignitaries and guests! Both girls did an outstanding job and were commended on being a genuine credit to the College. Whilst Caitlyn was awarded the Public Speaking prize for her speech on the adverse impact modern day song lyrics have on the youth of today, Rickylee was crowned the overall District winner. She will now progress to the next round, which will be held on Sunday 21st September. The finals of the competition will take place next April in Echuca. We are indeed proud to be able to showcase these inspirational young adults, who clearly demonstrate that we have exceptional leaders of the future in our midst.
